A Grand Day Out (Two Actually)

We've enjoyed an aeronautically flavoured weekend which was blessed with fine weather for most of the time.
Saturday found us here -

Yes, Duxford - a busy time with lots of air movements. I took the opportunity to realise an ambition -


Brilliant ! the flight included the controls being entrusted to me for a while
On Sunday we went over to Old Warden for their flying VE Day celebrations. There I met another Dev - Keith Paine -

He's on the left.
And finally I'll end with a shot of one of my favourite aircraft - the D.H. Comet being readied to fly.

Nice shots Dave Glad you had a grand time and met up with Keith My dear old dad had going up in the Tiggie on his list of things to do before he died but sadly, never made it. I did manage to drag (not the right word) him up in AIYR and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He was so impressed, he bought one of the big pictures they sell of it and had it framed. It's now on the wall in my living room

Ha ha ! - yes Dave, 'dragged' is entirely appropriate - I had to push the dear well-fed wife uphill in the same aircraft in order to get her into the front pax seat. Got a similar photo in tne lounge. You can see which photo I bought this time

Getting out is equally hazardous too isn't it. Even getting up out of the seat is a task in itself I'd love a go in the Tiggie too. It's on my list.. hopefully, I'll have a little more success than my dad!

Yes, very nice to be face to face after all these years communicating by forum & e-mail. I'm off to Biggin Hill Tuesday, & have been promised Brooklands on my birthday (Thursday). Its then over to Great Oakely in Essex to view the Proctor rebuilds being undertaken. Then reality time for return to France on Sunday night!

Wow,
I can only aspire to dream of flying in a Tiger Moth!
This is very interesting , and timely.
I finally got around to Ants Tiger Moth. For about two weeks now, I've spent little time flying anything else.
But, I suppose that's hardly worth mentioning, compared to flying the real thing.
What was it like? I was given the controls of a Stolp Starduster, about 40 minutes altogether,... leaning the stick back and forth, tipping the wings gently, ...back and forth...then a quick pop up a hundred feet or so.... - heaven
Well, I'm ecstatic. .

Well Kevin - it was nowhere near as smooth as sim flying. This was mostly due to being thrown about by a very strong gusty wind which made continuous corrections a must. It was certainly nothing like my flight in an Auster a few years ago when the aircraft just needed gentle control corrections to keep it on course. Great fun though.

Funny you should mention the jacket Mike,- I did ask if that and the cans came with the deal - but alas, no, they just loan you the kit
They were, however, selling jackets in the shop - a snip at £600. No, I didn't.
