Final passenger flight for G-JOEY

Post by TobyV »

Not sure how I managed to miss this, I was aware the Trislanders were finally being phased out, but it seems the one with the face and the red nose (G-JOEY) has made its last passenger flight:

The Trislander doesn't seem to be type that gets much interest on here, but given its quirkiness, Britishness and the fact it used to fly over my house on a regular basis when I was a student and the fact that I nearly ended up working at B-N, it has some significance for me, even though I never flew on one.

Those of you on FB (not sure how people that is on here!) might also be interested in joining the group trying to ensure that this airframe is preserved:

Arguably the most famous Trislander in the world. :agree: I hope Joey is somehow saved from being parted out or broken up. :)

I think Garry mentioned some time ago that G-JOEY wouldn't be going to the scrappy.. it's an institution

JOEY..... - Institutionalized?... :S

I'd rather think of it as well housed with pension.

:agree:

Went to view the video link and then on seeing other pieces of news from the Beeb I spent a bit of time browsing there before realising how I actually got there in the first place. :$ Must be me age!!

I think there are, possibly in South America and also New Zealand, but Joey is "special" because of its paint job and the children's books written about it. Sort of a de-facto flagship of the Trislander fleet. Aurigny is probably the most well known "UK" (I have to put quotes around that else I'll probably upset some Channel Islanders :hide: ) Trislander operator.

Edit: here are the six remaining UK-registered Trislanders:

Six with Aurigny, G-BAXD registered with another company in Scotland.

Possibly a few in the Caribbean also. Intercaribbean operated one out of Providenciale, Turks & Caicos.
Maybe Cayman Islands although I suspect those have been pensioned off now.

Any chance she could be kept airworthy?

I don't think that was part of the plan mate.. more maintained in static config. I could be wrong though.
