Moons ain't Moons

Took the Grandsons to see "Oddball" this morning.
Unless you have youngsters who want to see it, don't bother.
It's based loosely on a real man and real situation on Victoria's South coast.
I can understand that they included an American businessman in the hope of aqttracting some U.S. interest, but.....
I was to see that they inserted a Northern Hemisphere Moon into the night sequences.
Did the makers think that you wouldn't recognise it, if it was shown as it appears Downunder?!
And why, oh why, do they insist on EVERY shot of the Moon being a FULL MOON?

It never occurred to me that you would see the Moon other than how we up here see it. Good points you raise. Of course up here and down there mean nothing in Space.

At least to me ... and of course any of the other 38 trillion people who live in this area, who saw it.

it's color (colour even) was rather a pale orange than these overly exposed red photos I've seen on various web sites.

anyway... how did you see it, Mike, Alex.. and whomever so did?

I didn't see it, completely forgot about it being the non event it actually is. Ooooh the Moon went into the Earth's shadow. The sky will fall and we are all doomed! Sorry, sarcasm being the lowest for of wit and all........

Hey Mike, how about posting a picture of the Aussie moon so that old fools like me can see the difference. While your at it, you could also post one of water draining since I have been told it goes down the drain clockwise. Snow in July? 34C on Christmas Day, the list is endless.

Here's roughly how we see the Full Moon in Southern Australia.


Joe's pic is rotated roughly 90-odd degrees, as he's not that far above the Equator.

The further North you go, the more the view turns, to become a totally inverted view of what we see here.

This site shows how left is right, including how the illuminated part "grows" from opposite sides between the Hemispheres.
Unfortunately, even these folks didn't bother to invert the pattern of shadows. Very bad form, seeing as they are specifically trying to educate! Yes, I've written to them.

I tried to get a photo of water, but it was crystal clear that I wasn't going to get a decipherable image.

Ross Noble, that fine British comedian, had a property down here, and he said that Australia could save millions of litres of water annually by putting up signs in hotels.
The signs would tell visitors that the water goes down the drain just the same as it does back home.
Then visitors wouldn't fill up the sink just to see what happened when they pulled the plug.

Joe: we're on septic tank here, so no matchstick pirate ships going down in stormy water, even for a video.
Last night was too cloudy to see anything other than scattered stars, though I know there was moonlight in the "wee" hours when I got up to sink an imaginary pirate ship.
