Russian Jet Shot Down

Post by dodger »

For those who may not have seen this,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-34907863

I think it was a Mig 23 the crew ejected as you can see at the end of the video,

Roger.

PS, i have just looked at the video again and it is saying that the crew are dead.

Just what the world didn't need.

If the radar traces had shown deep excursions or attack profiles over the border one may have had sympathy with the Turks, but this smacks of a horrendous over-reaction to a very minor territorial infringement. Of course being part of NATO, the rest of us are obliged to say their action was correct, and that we support it, as Obama has apparently done.

The shooting of the pilots whilst parachuting would seem unforgivable though.

It is not often that I have any sympathy for the Russians, but in this case one has to prefer their version of events to that of the Turks . It was a very, very stupid thing to do , and there is bound to be retaliation

Watching the news last night it appeared that the Russian jet was only just inside Turkish territory and there was no need for it to be shot down let alone one of the crew members to be shot and killed as he was in his parachute.....really disgusts me!

Why did the Turks not just send a message to Russia asking them to keep clear of their territory instead of resorting to this which may lead to retaliation of some sort.

Nigel.

Trouble is the Russians keep overflying Turkish airspace and they were warned by Nato a few weeks ago that it would retaliate if Russia continued. They lock their SU 30 radars onto the Turks F16 border patrols (that is aggressive) regularly.

Sadly the shooting down was bound to happen.

It sounds to me as though they have been proved to be entirely right in locking their radar onto the Turkish aircraft . The point has been proved in the most tragic way
