Thanks for the HU Dave. Seriously tempted by the F100. I might even fly it if I can tear myself away from the bathtub.

Its a lovely model and runs well on my unclocked i5 2500K. Although I don't want a Phantom J, the chances of any dev doing an FG/FGR appears to be anywhere from slim to none so the J is calling. My fear is it will run like a pig making a 35% discount too small. Decisions, decisions.

If it is of any help I am running an i7 3700k and the Phantom runs as well as any of the Milviz stuff. No problem with frame rates in FSX or P3D.
They have met us halfway with a model of the J modified with the tail fin ECM fairing but it still has the thinner US fuselage and exhaust nozzles.
It looks good in the UK schemes that are available and as you say probably as close as we will get to a UK variant.

Thanks Steve After years of poodling around in the old Iris model.. you can see that the J isn't quite the same (taking into consideration the inaccuracies of that model) but the discount and DaveQ's paints were enough to tip the balance..




It feels big and I haven't tried to trap in it yet but it runs as well as the F-15 (my yard stick) and will undoubtedly get more air time than the A2A Texan I bought on release day. A suitable birthday present from me to me!

Tempted - If I succumb, do I get the F-4J or F-100 ?

That's a difficult question. Much depends on your need for something British or otherwise. If you really want something British.. the RN versions were F-4K (FG1 UK) and the RAF's FGR2's were F-4M. However.. the RAF did get the Phantom II F3 which was actually a J (or as near as damn it) so you're vaguely in the ball park. The J/S is a stunningly beautiful model and can be flown IAW the 803 page McDonnell manual that comes with it should you so desire.. such is the fidelity of the systems. SOME will only be operative with TACPACK which is a slight drawback.
Flip the coin and you're with the F-100D. Like the F-4.. the degree of system fidelity enables you to fly 'to the numbers' should you wish or just doss around like I do It's also a beautiful model. Like the F-4.. certain functions will only be fully operable with TACPACK but don't let that put you off.

Both are system heavy models but manage to run on my i5 no worse than their F-15. At this discount.. they're much better value than the A2A Texan (if you're considering that) but take a LOT more learning to fly correctly. You can jump in and fly both.. engines running e t c but there are aspects that need a little more reading to get right and if you want to get everything right.. there's a LOT more reading!!!. After 3 days of the Texan, I'm bored sh1tless with it. No disrespect to the model but it is what it is. I'm sure the real one is much harder to master but this is a sim.. not real world

I had to have the F-100D when it came out. It's iconic shape has been with me since I was a kid and Milviz do it justice. However.. I'm smitten by the F-4J and with it's carrier heritage, will get much more use out of it. You could always pretend it's Christmas and your birthday all rolled into one and buy them both The Phantom just has the edge for me but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the F-100D.

One more thing to note, the F100 works in P3dv3.2, but the Phantom doesn't yet (crashes the sim I believe).
