Keeping to the era of my last project (D.H.-51) my next build is likely to be the Westland Widgeon monoplane (not the chopper !)
I've found plenty of photos and information including very scarce cockpit shots.
One question for you -in this photo, any ideas what the bar running under the centre-line of the fuselage is for ? beats me ...
It's nothing to do with the exhaust, that's up over the other side.

It's a crying shame that Outerzone appears to have evaporated from the web.
They had at least one plan which has a couple of words next to an arrow, pointing at that bar. The words are too small to read, and because they're gone, the image never sharpens up on Google images.
Dave, This NACA report might help. from the 3 view drawing it looks as if its a control rod for the elevators. Don't be mislead by the Google title of Cirrus II.
Thanks Gents - plenty there for me to ponder over - once I've finished the Xmas shopping as dictated by SWMBO.
The front - rear controls linkage seems the most likely so far. Later..yes, the general arrangement drawing on the 1927 pdf Keith refers to, shows the two joysticks (dotted ) connecting to the rod. Also there is a reference in another other publication to the removal of the front controls (& rod) when used as a passenger aircraft. This would seem to account for the difference in photos. Cased closed Sherlock - thanks.

A picture is worth a thousand words ...
Note the slots where the control columns poke through. I'd missed this shot in my earlier searches.

It made sense that the bar was for control links but I could only see one in that shot you posted and a search for others didn't seem to show any As you say.. a picture is worth a thousand words
Dave,
Nice stuff for animation with all those exposed cables & tubes!
Have a look at all the other pages at Flightglobal either side of the 3 view, lots more description. That link I think only shows that one particular page.
