I hope there weren't any frogs sitting on that wall! :hide:

Interesting, and well executed, but were they trying to investigate something?
Loos like a lot of trouble to go to, just for the fun of it. :dunno:
Cheers, Mike.

That was the team from Buffalo Airways and was part of their "Ice Pilots" show of a few years back. Arnie the pilot referred to passed away not long after the feat. I cannot remember why they did it, perhaps just a bunch of crazy Canucks seeing if the could.

Was the demolition charge actually inside their bouncing bomb, or was it a separate one placed against the dam and detonated by wire ?

Well done. Now try doing it in the dark while the other side are trying to kill you.

I see that the airline had their licence suspended December 2015.
Maybe they tried the same stunt at a major airport.

Must admit, I had the same fleeting thought Mr Grump.
Cheers, Mike.

From wikipedia Here
In 2011, Buffalo Airways was involved in a recreation of the historic Dam Busters raids of World War II, flying the mission, with their own plane and pilots. Buffalo dropped an inert reproduction of the 'Upkeep' bouncing bomb from their Douglas DC-4. The project was documented in the television show Dambusters Fly Again in Canada, Dambusters: Building the Bouncing Bomb in the UK, and Nova season 39 episode "Bombing Hitler's Dams" in the US. A behind-the-scenes look was also filmed in the Ice Pilots NWT season 3 episode 2 show "Dambusters".
Great video, from that I assume there was a separate charge on the dam.

No, the license suspension was over safety "issues" (more perceived than actual) after a couple of high-profile incidents in 2013 and 2015. What made things worse, was that within a month, Buffalo had brought in an outside consultant, put together a corrective action plan, and submitted it to Transportation Canada only to have them sit on it for 90 days then come back with more "issues" to be remedied that hadn't been brought up initially. It was only after Joe stepped down almost completely from the company that TSB suddenly decided that it was satisfied and reinstated the company. The whole thing was actually covered on the show. Unfortunately, just like here in the US, sometimes perception is what gets you in trouble and Transportation Canada didn't like Joe basically thumbing his nose at them over some onerous requirements that they came up with over "aging aircraft" trying to put him out of business, so they found reasons to ground him and get him out of the spotlight (i.e. off the show).
