Any shortwave radio listeners here?
If there be.
What radio brand and model do you have and what type of antenna do you use

Re: Any shortwave radio listeners here?
You wouldn't want one, the best ones are currently built by Communists from either Russia or China.

Larry.
I'll do what I like, and You'll like it that way.
mmK?
Already have one anyway. I asked a very general question.
Any shortwave radio listeners here?
If so what does the listener use.
Thank you and good day!

Re: Any shortwave radio listeners here?
Quite frankly my dear I don't give a damn what you like or think. You asked a question, I gave you an answer!
Here is a list of the current best rated SWL rigs:
Chinese
Qodosen DX-286
Xhdata D-109WB
Tecsun PL-880
Taiwanese
Sangean ATS909-X2
Russian
Selena Vega 215 (vintage but still one of the best)
As to an antenna, a long piece of wire (insulated or not and not too heavy, twisted bare ground wire is good outside but you might want to insulate it when it comes inside to prevent static shocks) as long as you can fit on your property. It can be bent into 'L' or 'U' shapes as required.

Perhaps you need a tutor.

Re: Any shortwave radio listeners here?
No need for a tutor here, I was a College lecturer in the UK and also taught Ham Radio classes for our local Ham Radio Club. I have been a fully qualified Ham Radio operator for almost 40 years and I am licenced to build and operate my own transmitters and receivers from a box of parts if required.
Perhaps you need to get a life instead of behaving the way you do! BTW how's the economy down there in Florida with no produce sales and no tourist money coming in. Feeling great again yet?

Well Gee, Mr professor.. All that college education sure didn't help your reading comprehension ..
.
Let's have another look at my query.
NO
Do you read anywhere in my question for your opinion on what I want or don't want to buy?
NO.
Do you read anywhere in my question where I asked about ham radio?
NO.
.
It's blatantly clear you feel inferior to me, thus all of your boring non sequitur ad hominem attacks and blah blah blah in my threads,
quod erat demonstrandum.

I remember hearing about short wave when I was a kid, early teens I think, but never got one in the end. There was an electronics shop called Maplin and they had a couple of kits and the associated bits. I didn’t realise it was still a thing to be honest.
Ben.

Re: Any shortwave radio listeners here?
It's still a pastime enjoyed by many around the world but the activity is way down on what it used to be. Most Hams are, by definition, shortwave listeners too as all of the long range communications (with the exception on 'moon bounce' and satellites) are conducted on the shortwave radio bands. Most Ham Radio transceivers (transmitter and receiver in one box) will only transmit on the permitted bands but they will receive on many other bands outside of the dedicated Ham bands too. My HF (shortwave) radio will receive (with full coverage) from 0.5 MHz to 30 MHz but it will only transmit on the permitted Ham frequencies. https://rigpix.com/kenwood/ts570d.htm
I have multiple VHF/UHF radios and all of them will receive outside of the Ham bands but will only transmit within the Ham bands with the exception of my handheld/walkie talkie. That can be used on multiple bands outside of the Ham bands too. For instance I can also transmit on the GMRS bands and on the marine bands. It will also receive the air bands (so I can listen to passing aircraft) and it will pick up commercial (non-trunked) communications up to and including the old, original, cell phone bands (before they went digital). I had a lot of fun in the UK listening in to cell phone conversations especially if both sides were using the same tower because then you would get both sides of the conversation instead of just one. I've heard lots of drug deals going down, lots of women whining about their partners to their friends and lots and lots of phone sex!
Maplins was one of the biggest suppliers of electronic components back in the day. They are still going but now seem to only sell electronic devices rather than the discrete parts used to build interesting things! https://www.maplin.co.uk/

Re: Any shortwave radio listeners here?
Hello Ben,
While shortwave radio interest has waned many use the shortwave frequencies to broadcast news, informative and entertainment programming around the world.
It's a vital medium for many who live under dictative governments that prohibit their citizens from listening to religious programming or make social connections around the world.
Which is becoming more prevalent.
The good thing about shortwave is it really can't be manipulated like the devices we use such as smartphones, smart tvs and computers. No ai, or tracking bots.
And it's a fun hobby, with very little know how anyone can find programming broadcast around the world.
