.....I've decided that I'd like to learn to fly and so last night purchased 6 National Lottery tickets and 2 tickets on the Irish Lottery.

What's the Irish lottery like...is that one that if you're number comes up you have to pay them a million? :roll:

The Irish Lotto is pretty good. The official website only allows you to play a min of 12 weeks (Â£44) so I did it through the Labrokes site instead. The odds are far better but the jackpot is lower.

I only want enough to pay my debts and learn to fly anyway.

A lad from one of the reliefs in the City has recently appeared in the internal newsletter at work. He left some years ago to follow his dream and did all the necessary studies in the US. There's a cracking picture of him in his new office as a First Officer with BMI Baby flying 737-500's.

The cost?

In the article, he said it cost him exactly Â£43,600...! :shock:

That's about right Eddie...............but he's probably now earning around Â£10,000 per month...........!!! :-$

Someone I know of whos learnt to fly for commercial purposes has paid in total nearly twice that figure (though I understand he didnt exactly progress smoothly through the course). I heard the salaries werent really that high these days, from as little as Â£35-40k pa in some cases though I could be wrong?

We start F/Os at 35K USD and they are very happy to be getting it.

I couple of years ago I heard Virgin's F/O's were on Â£36k which didnt really sound like a lot. I guess its all relative. There other occupations that I consider less demanding (leaving sports/entertainments "professionals" well out of it :k: ) that pay a lot better, but then I'd hope you get a lot more satisfaction out of flying

I've been reading about it all on the easyJet website.

Once qualified, an EZY FO from the cadet sponsorship scheme will earn Â£23,044 a year as well as Â£1000 every month to pay back the Â£60k loan you would have taken out to pay for the training.

A senior FO then gets Â£31.019 and a Captain Â£58,954. These salaries are only applicable for 7 years and then you would go onto a higher "normal" scale.

Think I would be quite happy on Â£30-35k a year combining a hobby with work!!
