I guess MS has come to the level of power that they really
don;t have to release a product to their customers
that is what they promised it to be
maybe thats why FSX stinks to high heaven

Even some of the traditional Microsoft enthusiasts are beginning to wonder about Vista, eg Jon Honeyball writing in PCPro magazine.

Apparently it is pretty but most work PCs will not have the hardware to run the fancy graphics (eg basic Dells). For business use the demise of the proposed new file system is a major let down.

While he agrees that Vista will be taken up by businesses eventually, he would actually recommend Apple (with Intel CPUs) for home use. And for him to write that is a major climb down from his previous position. Indeed he wonders if Vista bombs in the home market whether Microsoft will continue with that market - they just regard it as a scaled-down version of the business market. Apple apparently see the home market differently, both in terms of pricing and included software.

All these comments are just one person's opinions - everyone else will have their own (like Sean quoted "opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one").

Personally, it doesn't bother me - I'll just continue to use my mix of operating systems until I NEED to change. They get the job done on the hardware I have. Meanwhile there will be flame wars on the pros and cons, just like there are for FSX.

Actually - there's a lady at work who hasn't. Got one, I mean. Had it sown up and bypassed or something

Win FS (The new File system) was droped from Vista Last year, so its hardly news. Also there are two different fron ends, Aero (the fancy one) requires all the fancy hardware, or the standard windows desktop, which pretty much anything will run. The big marketing point for business users is the centralised management and deployment tools which are included as standard, and this is the selling point. I don't think microsoft are expecting big business to run out and buy it, they will get it slowly as they replace their old kit with new hardware which has vista pre installed.

As I recall, the same arguments where used when XP was launched, but XP is miles better than 2000, and despite the bad press, the uptake to the new opperating system was faster than expected. I expect Vista will go the same way.
