How to remove annoying messages

Post by speedbird591 »

Somebody just posted this on the Tinmouse forum and I thought I'd share it. It will remove messages such as 'wings unfolding', 'tailhook extending' etc.
I haven't had time to try it myself yet but it looks easy enough:

To remove the "Wing Unfold" message (or any another messages for that matter, ie overspeed etc) first you need to get hold of a utility called Resource Hacker found here:

http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/

Use this program to remove or rename the strings you wish to edit from the language.dll (Remember, backup your language.dll before starting this).

Here's how:
1. Using ResHacker.exe, open your language.dll file
2. Click on "View - Find text" and type in "tailhook"
3. Delete all the text between the quotes "", leaving the quotes there.
Example: Before: "Wings Folded" After: ""
4. Once your changes have been made, click on "Compile Script".
5. Click on File - Save and you're done. No more messages..

I'm assuming you have to restart FS? Did it in the process of flying from LXGB to EGXW, found this one rather comical!

I wonder if it can be reverse engineered? I'd get no end of fun having that pop up at appropriate moments!

Heh, replace "Crash" with " There goes your no-claims!"
"Overspeed" with " Youre going to end up a smoking hole if you keep flying like that!"

Something seems to have gone wrong with those messages on my installation, and now they take up a quarter of the screen! Is there any way of editing the size or restoring it to default? I've tried reloading the fs9.cfg and starting a new flight from scratch, and it has stayed the same.

Rich. Those messages. Although I posted that info, I never got round to trying it myself  It's not clear whether your problem has occurred since using it. If so, I would have thought that re-installing your original language.dll file should return it to default.

Hi Ian, thanks for your reply. I didn't install the utility, so I'm not sure why this has happened :dunno:

I'll try reinstalling the language.dll and see what happens anyway. Cheers!
