There was an interesting comparison on the BBC News showing how much of their stock is so expensive in the first place, that knocking 40% off brought it down to around Tesco's price.

Of course, it's difficult to generalise but if, like for me, Tesco is much nearer than Thresher's you can use that as an excuse not to have to get the car out

Ian

Might just use that!

They claim that "Buy 2 get 3rd free" offer is almost the same (33% discount) but this does offer the flexibility of not having to commit to 3 of the same.

And having just seen Ian's response, Thresher do tend to have some different wines to Tesco. And at one of my local branches the manager can be very helpful with making decisions (he's tried most of them himself!).

Not so in Tesco.

In my varied career of different jobs i've had in my relativlely short life i've actually been the Deputy Manager and licencee of 3 different Threshers stores (Wine Racks actually but same company)

For branded mass produced stuff they are massivly expensive compared to places like Tesco and rely on trade from people who only remember the wine at the last second and just 'pop down the offie'.

Thats not to say that there aren't a few bargains hidden in the mix too. They are extremely good when it comes to 'own brand' stuff. Wines which they select and label up with their own labels and sell on.

There head wine buyer, a bloke called Jonathan Butt, is extremely well respected and can sniff out a top quality wine at a decent price from a mile off.

The Radcliffe's range is very good value for money on some of the mid priced wines, the cheaper ones less so.

Which one's near you Ian, would it be Radcliffe or Bridgford by any chance, i've worked in both of those as well as the big one on Mansfield Road in the City.

Rob (still an alcoholic... :-$)

Rob,

Radcliffe is my nearest, but I understand the knowledgable manager (Richard) is now at West Bridgford.

Good old Rich Baker, he does know a hell of a lot about wine, a scary amount actually...

He's at the Wine Rack at Bridgford now you're quite right and was the one who gave me my first job with Threshers in Radcliffe.

Excuse my ignorance :k:

But what is this about? :worried:

The title seems to indicate something well known.....well maybe to those of you who live in the UK but puzzling for those who don't

:dunno:

Garry

For those of you who live in France  , Thresher's (a major high street wine/beers/spirit outlet) offered a 40% discount voucher to suppliers and family.

Well "family" seems to have got out of hand with it being passed on to friends, friends of friends, etc.

But Thresher have agreed to honour all of the vouchers - after all they get names and addresses for future marketing :-$

Ian

PS I might have met the happy otter
