1967 Liverpool Speke Airport

Post by tgibson »

Hi,

I said in the classic airports thread that I would look into "activating" Paul's very nice old Speke airport terminal that he released as part of his EGGP VFR Landmarks series. So you start by installing that file first, and then install mine. You will end up with 2 scenery layers, EGGP 1967 and EGGP VFR Landmarks. To go back and forth you will need to check/uncheck the EGGP 1967 layer and move a few BGL files back and forth (you can leave the VFR layer checked all the time).

Because he used flatten files which are at a different elevation from the default airport, you must move those to avoid your AI aircraft floating above the tarmac. And when you uncheck the EGGP 1967 layer you will need to move them back if you want tarmacs and roads to show up in the modern era.

I've included the VFR Landmarks/Old Airfield file in my current distribution; it's 2.2 of the 2.4 MB. I can distribute a MUCH smaller file if I eliminate it, but then you have to download the file at AVSIM (if you haven't installed it already). What do you think?

Finally, I don't have the VFR scenery most of you do, so this was done using the default scenery. Anyone interested in helping make any needed changes for that addon scenery can contact me.

Let me know if you see any problems, etc. here in this thread.

I guess I won't do a pre-1966 version since no one seems to know anything about the old runway.

Take care,
Tom Gibson

Hi Tom

Sorry to be a pooper but those aircraft are wrong for 1967 on the pic that is.

The Aer Lingus Friendships had gone and that was no longer the livery

That looks like a Starways Dak......gone in the early Sixties

Should be full of Viscounts Aer Lingus Cambrian British Eagle and some Dan Airs Daks and Lizzies as well.......a lot of things really........but not those types in the pic.

Or perhaps I'm missing the point

Sorry if I am :worried:

Hi Gary

>perhaps I'm missing the point<

included in the airport download.

Hi,

I'm using my Classic Propliner AI, which varies within the 1958 to 1963 era. I'll be using this as my "classic Liverpool" airport, no matter the exact era. I originally planned to model the pre-1966 version, but I have no information on the old runway.

BTW, I had very little information to go on, so this is just a best guess.

I'm sure others of you will have more accurate traffic you can use. :)

Take care,
Tom Gibson

Tis a shame that all of the runways have been dug up now
Ive been in the terminal building a few times, its been converted into a themed hotel and I must say its very impressive, very retro and stylish.

They're making new episodes of Poirot?? I need to aquire a television! (Or just buy the DVDs.)

I like that picture. I think I'm going to have to backdate my FS9 install to represent England 1960-1980...
