Classic British Flight Sim

Hi all,

Over the past few year's,I have done nothing but take when it comes to flight simming,So after a flash of inspiration whilst waiting to unload at EGCC last night,I have decided to try and give something back.

I want to have a crack at recreating manchester airport as it was in 1969,Now being completly new when it comes to building anything for flightsim,I think it will probably take the form of a new afcad and the basic building layout of the time using the default buildings to start with.

I may attempt to create custom buildings depending on how i get on.
However i have hit my first stumbling block,After 2 hours of searching,I can't find any plans of the airport from the period.

Any pointers anyone can provide will be much apprechiated.

As i said above,I am trying to give something back,It may come to nothing,It may be cr@p and unsuitable for public consumption ,But one can only try.

I'd personally love to see the plans too, especially for the 80s period. I can only help you with modeling tips i'm afraid, soggy, but I wish you the best of luck!

A thought - Manchester City Council Archives - Surveyors office
there must be plans there

1969 was when they extended the runway there so there a very good chance there will be something in the archives there

If this is sufficient for a start then use them as they are. If you wish them full size then I can upload them for you to download. When you require, I also have the approaches, SIDs, STARs and noise abatement procedures for the same time...17 JUN 85.

In 1969...It looked about the same but I think there were not as many diversion parking slots.

And back then you could walk along the top of Piers A and B and take photos of the aircraft right at the gate!

Nowadays not only would it be a 'Security Issue' but the HSE would probably have collective heart failure at the mere thought of Joe Publics getting that close to a jet exhaust <sigh>

An old Manchester would be great.

Peter's 1985 layouts only need slight adjustment to go back to 1969. The edited layout below roughly shows bits added after 1969 in red.

The 'new' international pier C opened in 1974 with work only starting in the early 70s, so that bit was open space in 1969.
The runway was also shorter in 1969 & finished before the main road (which now goes through a tunnel).
It had a big extension from 1798 to 2745 metres sometime in 1969 (orange bit) and then up to 3048 metres in the early 80s (red bit).
