More from the testing front: Took lots of advice from the horizon forum and tried various things: 1. Disabled VSync (set to off) and whilst there might have been a reduction in stutters it was hard to determine exactly by how much, if any. 2. Nothing else in the form of tweaks, either to the graphic...

Interesting point re Tile Proxy and something to consider - one problem with Tile Proxy is that the coverage of high resolution satallite images is not great. Did some testing of Gen-X and here are the findings: 1. Mesh made no difference at all - so if nothing else Gen-X provides better mesh than s...

Hi Dave, Trevor, It's a great shame about Gen-X, I really was hoping that it was a general FSX issue because it would be more likely to be fixed (at least I would hope so). On the other hand at least FSX works really well now. I did see a post on Avsim that indicated that FSX loads other scenery ele...

Defragged to death... However I returned to Valley but this time I disabled Horizon's Gen-X and behold no stutters at all - anywhere! Previously I had Gen-X but not Number 3 installed - Valley and immediate area were stock scenery but I did have Gen-X just over the horizon (so to speak). It would se...

Could some kind soul recreate my check flight at Valley to see if you also get serious stutters there? See aircraft used from my previous post but all I've done is take off then perform a reasonably tight climbing spiral up to about 13K. Stutters are from VC view just gazing slightly to the left in ...

Another experiment - this is strange but... Tried some flying three US locations: Friday Habour, Seattle and Pensacola with 3 aircraft: Microlight, Maule and JP5. Very occaisional stutter at Friday Harbour and Seattle and with a few more (but not many) at Pensacola. Set weather to clear and same aga...

Just been for a spin in Rick's great JP5... and here are the results from the Hunty jury: 1. All scenery sliders set to the left stop and no autogen. 2. First reference flight from Valley; weather fair, daytime, frame rate locked to 40 - great frame rates but still got the st st stutters - frequent ...

First Impressions of FSX SP1

I just posted this at Avsim - I don't think I need to add anything else. First the good: 1. Getting good frame rates over rural/light urban areas of 40 (locked at 40) where previously I would be lucky to get 30. Now the not so good: 1. Also getting fairly frequent heavy stuttering (FR drop to 3 - 5)...

Hi Rick, Fortunately I've got a PCI-E Vid (or unfortunately 'cos it's only a 6800 GS) - might be able to get it under the radar if the 6420 is much cheaper. SP1 looks as though it'll do the job - I installed on a tweaked version of FSX and I did get much better frame rates (up from about 20 ish to 3...
