Leif, would you care to expand a bit on your flying days? They seem to encapsulate the era of the UK airliner decline and would be of great interest to many of us. I have a single Brit trip logged (as an ATC cadet in the dreaded form 3822) and would love to hear your stories.

1964-1968 Luton Flying Club resident Airport Kid along with Jon Pinchin the owners son
1971-1973 - SLOJO/Ops Officer Dan Air Luton
1973 -1978 IAN LGW first doing Dip Clearances and Overflights for 6 months and remainder as Brit/Cl44/DC8 loadie

Evoking memories of 13 hours - most over the gorgeous Med - in the hot summers of '71 (outward) and '74 (return).
Frustration that we didn't manage to wangle a hotly-contested VC10 seat and elation at avoiding the dreaded Hercules (purely from a passenger point of view, of course... ;-) ) :flying:

JD, Patience my friend and you will soon be able to relive those lost moments. The only pax configured Brits I flew on were Britannias 100s , and the sensation was pleasent - they lived up to their nickname
All of the 300s I flew on as a loadie had no soundproofing and sheet aluminum on the inside - the flight deck was a quiet cozy haven - but 9 hours in the back tended to degrade your upper end hearing.

You are not alone with hearing loss Leif......I SAID YOU ARE NOT ALONE WITH HEARING LOSS LEIF!!
I recon I now have about 60% heaing in my left ear and a bit more in right ear, now I know why we have balance control on stereo headsets! Bloody helicopters

Trev, in truth it wasnt the Brits fault entirely - I dont remember anyone on the ramp at Luton in the early 70s wearing ear defenders, and you were subject to Speys,Darts,Tynes,Proteus, JT8s JT4s the occasional RB211 on a daily basis, its a wonder any of the Ramp rats that worked back then have ANY hearing, first time I saw sponge plugs was when I worked at KATL
