Re: Going to the Dark Side..Again.....
Some of the guys above are getting decent frame rates, so might be woth giving a go....
Are any of you guys running Genx scenery or other high performance addons? Not much point in buying them Tony if the guys are using the default... How much siming would you do in Default FS9 mate?
I know the quality of your work, and I know you'd be expecting the same from the sim and I just don't think you'd get what your after in default FSX.

Tony,
I originally ran FSX on a system similar to yours (graphics card was only a 7600 I think) and it was perfectly playable, I think I even used it for early trials of the Ark in FSX.
I've upgraded since, and now run Ultimate Terrain X - Europe, which makes the continent the right colour and puts roads in the right place as Tweek noted, however I'd say on your system you'd be better off with a simple landclass update as I've definitely lost a couple of FPS with UTX, which on your system may be the difference between fun and irritating.

I find your lack of faith.... disturbing

This might help a bit :

Re: Going to the Dark Side..Again.....
well I would use fs9 as the main sim the horizon genx scenery isnt supposed to hurt frame rates I was led to believe??

AMD Phenom II X4 BE 965 @ 3.80GHz
nVidia GTX 560 TI 448 Cores
Re: Going to the Dark Side..Again.....
I have around 25 fps (locked) on a Single Core, WinXPsp3, Intel Pentium IV 3.0 GHz, H/T, 4 GB RAM, GeForce 7600 GT 256 mb RAM, FSX:A + nHancer
But I also have 9 FPS somewhere and under certain conditions, but in general it lies around the 19-25 fps

Ah, not sure about that one, I'm using Ultimate Terrain X fom Flight One. To be honest all these different upgrades with X on the end are starting to confuse me!horizon genx scenery isnt supposed to hurt frame rates
As Dan said you will get low FPS in some areas e.g. LAX when it's busy, as the graphics settings are optimised for a more generic setting but I'm sure I had the same problem with FS9 originally.

Here you go Tony.. just to prove it DOES work on a lesser machine than yours..

Forgot I'd locked the framerate down to 25 while testing DG's Beau props a few days ago but as you can see.. it was sticking to it there or thereabouts. As a comparison.. the Alpha F3 runs around 7fps less than Ricks Hawk ;-)

Re: Going to the Dark Side..Again.....
The secret with FSX is to take your time tweaking the settings. I spent three weeks tweaking after installing FSX and have a sim that will run from the mid-teens at heavily congested airports (KJFK, KLAX, KORD with 100% traffic and massive AI add-ons) to well over 80 FPS in more urban areas. I actually get better framerates in FSX than I do in FS9 now.

AMD Opteron 146

XFX GF 8600GTS 256MB
2GB Corsair ValueRAM
Win XP Pro SP2
FSX with SP1
