I have this problem with the Chipmunk and the Beaufighter as well as the Just Flight Tiger Moth. This picture shows the Tiger's P8 compass in FS9 on Runway 24 at Duxford.
As can be seen the compass points accurately points to the correct bearing, the cross piece indicating the aircraft's tale pointing away from the bearing.
However, loading up the same aircraft at the same location in FSX gives this result.....
The compass appears to be pointing at 300 degrees. Is this a known problem with FSX????
However on your original post John....You are in FS9 lined up as you say on runway 24 at Duxford....have you noticed that your actual heading is shown in red at the top of the screen as 293 Degrees (unless my eyesight is getting much worse... )
Could be a scenery placement error thrown into the mix perhaps...?

Thanks BB.
I think this was compounding the confusion. I fired up FS9 again - this time the heading is right and the compass work in both FS9 and FSX as Rick describes it.
I know it's a bit fiddly as Peter McLealand guided me through how it works as he pointed out that the M$ original was reversed if you use it properly.
I would never have noticed unless he told me but i know the Chipmunk V3 one works properly as Peter and I spent a few days of testing to get it correct.
