Re: Tudor HU
Dave, the Tudor 2 & 5 (with the big fuselage and the stub nose) were ugly all right, but I dont think the Tudor 4 is - once you get used to that vertical tail ;-)

Just 'cause the DC-4 got built first, doesn't mean they didn't swipe the design....

Re: Tudor HU
Let's not go there. There are very few NEW ideas ;-)
Jens..
There are some aircraft I fly from the inside and others I like to look at from the outside. I think I know where I'll be with the Tudor ;-)

Wow, Jens - thanks for these!
I think this plane is gorgeous! And it flies nicely, to boot.
It will be put into active service once Air Hauler is released.

Re: Tudor HU
The Tudor IV is beautiful plane , except for fin and rudder. I wonder why they at AVRO designed an ugly tail like that..
One question : Lord Chadwick died on a Tudor, correct? Was that plane a Tudor I ? I read that the plane crashed for a silly cause but don't remember which one..

Re: Tudor HU
The original designed fin was too small
I think the large ugly unit was perhaps just the cheapest way of getting the correct area

Re: Tudor HU
The accident that killed Roy Chadwick was due to an overnight servicing error
The aileron cables were inadvertly crossed
I think it was G-AGSU

... ah, found it:
from http://www.manchester2002-uk.com/celebs/engineers2.html
JohnRoy Chadwick died at Woodford on 23rd August 1947. While testing his Tudor II Airliner, the aircraft lost control and crashed into Shirfold Farm nearby. Later it was established that the accident had been due to a servicing error, and not a fault in the aircraft. In the tragic accident all but two members of the crew were killed outright, including Chadwick himself.
