Well, what I miss here is the aspect of today's working environment. If these guys really were asleep - we could refer to a similar incident earlier this year. We could also refer to the CVR transcript of the Colgan Air Dash8 that crashed in Buffalo this January. Just before the accident the pilots give insight into their working conditions. And you can hear them stifling a yawn. Maybe flying hours and cockpit crew treatment should be thought over?

Aviation has changed to the worse in the past two decades.
And there's plenty of proof for that.

Cheers,

If they were aslepp then it seems odd that they would want to erase the CVR??

Like and actual accident though, we don't really know any hard fact. so much is part truths hearsay and specualtion *-)

I heard they were checking work schedules on their laptops. Very much against company policy. More than likely, they will loose their pilot licenses.

Update. The FAA have grounded them - they have ten days to appeal.

The American FAC investigated the reason for the recent over flight of this aircrafts destination, when the pilots passed over the intended airport, continuing for a further half hour before realizing their error. The attachment is what they found.
