I do not remember a Vulcan ever visiting when I was there, nor a Victor either. Plenty of C-130's, the odd Andover CC Mk 1 and the dear old Pembroke too!

Well I'm going to claim 'one up' on you there, Trev :excited:

I was one of the witnesses standing on hand-brake hill, watching the first ever (last ever?) visit by a BA Jumbo to the base. Unfortunately, I can't remember the year - '78 or '79 I think.

They had to have a Wessex fly above the thing whilst it was taxiing around to ensure the wing tips missed all the buildings enroute. Is that a first? A Wessex as a follow-me truck? B-)

Crumbs a 747! I must have been having one of my 'holidays' at SHFN(F)I at the time, as I missed that!

I've spent some time looking around the 'net for info on this - all I found was THIS page - under the 'Practical Movers' heading - (and some other about a Constellation visiting in 1962 - but I don't know if it was common or not - certainly shouldn't have been a problem). btw - the event is only mentioned on the page, no details at all :(

I remembered the name of that 747 for years after - but typically I can't remember at all now. *-)

Mind you - given the time between, I won't beat myself up too much about it. Numbers - those I can remember, but not names.

And no, I don't remember the reg of the aircraft - Civvy planes have letters, not numbers! :)

PS - Aha! Found another one - by 'EXGUTGEEZER' LINKY - justy if anyone's ineterested, of course. That looks like it might have some interesting comments in it, anyway... PPRuNe http://www.pprune.org/military-aircrew-57/

Some countries use numbers of course and I've always known civilian identities being called registration numbers and military being referred to as serials *-)

Sorry to revive this old thread - but thanks to Geoff, I found this old pic from 1979, showing the 747 being marshalled through the 4sqn area:

17th pic down (or 6th pic up :) ).

I remember standing on the blast wall at 4 squadrons has 3 in 82 watching a 747 taxi past.

Don't forget that it will be compatible with FSX, too (or an FSX version separately) according to the developer.

Blimey, I'm a war pensioner and I bought mine 3 years ago! (for £17.99 - its even cheaper now - so that excuse is wearing thin!).
