Sorry to hear your news Ian and I admire the way you are dealing and looking at it. I can only hope I will be able to do the same if something similar happens to me. I have often noticed it is the people who are not in your situation have the problem dealing with it. They feel awkward but your post has removed that. Thanks for letting us know and I hope everything goes the way you want it to.

Ian ,
Just back from our travels and trying to catch up . So sorry to hear of your news . Keep hearing ‘t French ATC are on strike , so wot with the backlog you won’t get a slot ‘til most of us are pushing up daisies . Now as to a bacon butty with HP sauce ……..yes please .
Further travels to Sussex saw a mate and I Indian crawling to within 200 yds of half a dozen young fallow deer bucks , beautiful grass and clover , no nettles with bees working around us ; watched by a warren of rabbits . When the elbows and knees tired , rolled over to see a large mob of swifts working over the field getting their bacon butties ! Bootiful boi [ if u r Naarfick ]
Mind you if anyone else was around and saw us … think the Blues and Twos would have been alerted and straight jackets ordered … Asbo’s all round for a brace of 60 year olds .

Keeping my fingers crossed for you chief, hoping you'll be turned around. Sate club, Newton Circus or Garlic chilli prawns at Fatty's and then head back to Sydney, keeping my fingers crossed that you'll find that the trip is longer than you'd been expecting.

Hello Dave and mysterious speepig. Thanks very much for thinking of me and reminding me of stuff. Getting turned around in Singapore after Fatty's prawns sounds like a fine idea. In the old days most of us would have welcomed that and it delayed more than a few 221 divorces!

Your trip - in the other thread - sounds totally wonderful, Dave. It was an ambitious trip for someone as senior as you, but hopefully you got a comfortable seat on the longest sectors ;) Such a lovely thought to know that you found the opportunity to raise your glass to me at some memorable places too. You big softy! Quite touching, though. And thanks for the deerstalking image. That gave me a good laugh - especially the thought of the deer pretending that they hadn't seen you

I miss the countryside so much, which sounds daft as I'm surrounded by it  I seem to have so much to do to get things wrapped up and unfortunately I can't settle down and get them finalised without the pain setting in so I have to take lots of breaks and come back to it all later. Still, I'm nearly done and I'm hoping for a new painkilling regime soon so with some luck I'll be able to be more adventurous. The breathing is getting harder, too, and I might have to go into the hospital to have fluid drained from my lung but not yet.

The taxpayer is being very generous, though. If you had to choose a cancer to have, then this one is quite profitable. I get a good sized allowance that nobody seems to know what for and I've been awarded a 20k lump sum just for having this particular disease. It's got it's own compensation scheme and the application form was so easy I had to phone up to check that it wasn't a scam  Still, it will certainly give me the opportunity to have my last couple of months being cared for professionally (Another martini please, nurse B-) )

Thanks again for your posts. I'll let you know when something else happens :worried:

Ian

Hi Ian, I took a shortish bike ride through town recently and I'd just like to say that I was thinking about how you would've enjoyed it.In fact, knowing how much you love your bike,I felt a bit guilty.I hope you aren't in too much discomfort.Best Wishes EricT :)

You felt guilty so you TOLD me about it? Thanks a LOT, mate.
I think that a reasonable mark of respect would be to not go out on your bike again until October. Let's see how guilty you feel then!

Only kidding - you go for it and enjoy it. My bike's gone now - to a good home where it will be used properly and well loved. The camera's going to my brother as soon as I remember to box it up. I'm successfully finding loving homes for all my favourite things. The iPad and bank account are coming with me, though :S

Ian :)

PS Still looking for a home for the present Mrs. Speedbird. But, be warned, she's quite high maintenance because she comes with the little red sports car.

Oh dear, with hindsight I s'pose it was a bit tactless Ian but it was meant to show that you were in my thoughts. I can't really help you re Mrs Speedbird and accessory.Have you thought about eBay? Providing there's not much bodyrot and the colour is saleable you should get a fair price. Not sure about the car though. :hide: EricT
