50th Anniversary. The first woman to fly around the world

Post by Jon.M »

I'd not heard of this lady before, and if you ask Google who was the first you'll get a lot more about Amelia Earheart who famously wasn't.

I enjoyed reading that and wondered why I did not remember it happening...Then I remembered I was at school at Ealing every day doing studies for my Commercial Pilot's Licence and then my Airline Transport Pilot's Licence. So I guess I was pretty pre-occupied! That is a fantastic achievement to get Round the World, Solo in a Single engined Cessna in 19 days!

Thanks Jon - great find.
What an odd story!
Amazing that such an achievement has gone without fanfare for all these years.
You'd think that her sponsors would have been keen to plaster the news all over the place. Strange indeed. :dunno:
Cheers, Mike.

Then there was Sheila Scott in 'Myth Too' in 1966.
