And the front - air cooled? :hide:

Artificial horizon is fixed, so thats very good. Still takes off like a kite, but that only happens once per flight, so I can live with it for now. It does need looking at, however. All in all, I'm happy ! :)

Now having had some time to get to know her a little better, think its a major improvement on the earlier version, but after flying it with two other Chipmunk chaps, we came up with just a few notes. Take off is a lot better, and not sure what we are doing wrong, but can make the run longer than what have read online. Up goes the tailwheel soon as possible and then build up speed on the mains, before departing the earth. Climb out is a tad too fast, well wont say what one of my friends said (might get banned!). Aeros were fine, cept when pushing forward when rolling, engine takes ages to change note. Same for inverted flight, gets there, but not quiet soon enough. In tight turns speeds should bleed off a lot quicker too.

And the brakes are way too fierce. Can see why some people are getting these STOL landings. Can bring the tailwheel off the ground with the stick right back and almost at a standstill.

Only with the Throttle open, can you move the mixture forward as there is a 'gate' on the side of the throttle arm, disallowing the mixture to move in this fashion. Should not dead cut, as they should be a ring pull under the cockpit to shut the engine down.

But apart from the speeds, am really enjoying it. Nice to see the wind sound removed together with that of the stall warner, the revised engine cowling and the repositioned tailwheel.

Happy Landings,

Martin

This almost sounds like a different FD to the one I have Martin. It will unstick, hands off and no flap in around 3secs (sub 50kts) with the throttle to the stop.. pretty much identical to the previous incarnation. I know the version I have is the new one as the lights are different, the PK is complete and I got a warning from windows that the file hadn't been downloaded many times so may harm my computer  Never mind.. I have a different FD installed since the SP so I can no longer hop into and out of Penzance Heliport :cpu:

Will have to give it a go later as just off to work now. Perhaps I just had my hand on the stick all the time that made the difference, with the other of course on the throttle! Intriguing!

Hi Martin :hello:

I've just had another go to make sure I wasn't going loopy  The following shot was taken moments after unstick.. default load (I presume full fuel).. completely hands off.. no weather.. no flap.. just the throttle opened to full. Elapsed time was a bit longer than 3secs (it feels like 3secs in sim compared to what you're expecting).. this was at 10secs and the aircraft was off the deck by half a foot. Speed shown along the top of the shot.. 49kts, it actually unsticks at closer to 47/48kts:

Dave,

I've tried a few times tonight and if I leave everything alone (don't really like doing that), she does come off the ground after about 8 seconds for me, running straight and then off to the right before slowly getting airborne. Tried it with both light winds and nothing and got the same results. Went back to my normal take off technique and she tracked the centre line of the runway all the way, before unsticking at about 50kts - around 15 to 20 seconds. Just finding that climb speed and cruise way too high and those oh so fierce brakes.

Read elsewhere that people have problems in getting off the ground, but have tried at home with a twist rudder and at CAF with the full works and she came off quite easily. Did have problems when testing new air files but believe that to be me and not the aeroplane. Did notice before and your screenshot reminded me of this, but upon landing seem to get some kind of white vortices off the wings when in the landing attitude close to the ground. Quite unsure what this is.

And also noted but not recorded before, have a slight gap in the front windscreen along the bottom section.

Apart from that, everything seems to be ok.

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Martin :hello:

Yes.. I also see the same effect above on landing and I'm not sure what it is either  It's pretty but not something I'd expect to see off a Chippie *-)

No.. I don't usually takeoff 'hands off' either. ;) It was only when I took off for the first time and popped outside to see what was going on (goofing the new model) that I was shocked to see I was already 'off' and I hadn't really done anything so I reset the flight and tried again.. hands off.. to see if it was a fluke. :-O

I have to admit I'll be happier when some paints start appearing for it. It's nice to see a fair selection of UK paints with the release but I have so many for Rick's model, the release paints don't look anywhere near enough  I may have a go myself but I'm not keen on the PK format so I'll probably wait for one of the more prolific (and serious) repainters to get their brushes wet ;)

Might be interesting to d/l Herve Sors AFSD for FSX & run that during take-off & flight - I suspect that output HP is high & that the prop efficiency curves not correct.
Dont have the model nor AFSD for FSX, so cant check for myself.

Mr Peter Watkins has already released a pack of four London School of Flying - and a few more are WIP.
