Dave B - thanks for your nicely detailed comparison between the F-4 and F-100 ( and ...er...the T-6 :lol: ). This really is a difficult one, as I like both models and though I don't have anything by Milviz, I know them by their reputation. And, as is so often the case, the superb repaints are 'selling' both aircraft to me.

Dave G - thanks for the warning about P3Dv3.2. That being the case, and with the clock running down on the sale, I shall settle for the F-100 this time, and put the F-4J at the top of the list for the next sale.

Thank you both, great info as always. :)

( Oh, and I shall be getting the A2A T-6 without a doubt. ;) :lol: )

:lol: :lol:

You won't regret getting the F100 mate. It's a beautiful model.. gorgeous cockpit (no nasty MFD's).. it flies quite delightful but still has the ability to bite should you be careless. As you'll have seen.. there are already umpteen repaints for it and many more still on the go. This is where my interest wains (wanes??) a little. I'm only really interested in airframes/paints that have been here and to this end.. only one has been done. It's no bad thing really. I already have more Spitfire and Mustang paints to make up for a lack of choice with any other model :lol:
Whatever Milviz produce is without doubt the best in class so you won't be disappointed :thumbsup:

Well, so far so okay-but. I've just tried a quick flight and it handles beautifully, though I can't trim it for level flight. I'm getting flashbacks to the Razbam Intruder and Prowler here. Haven't tried the load-out manager yet, but it looks good. The VC looks great, frame rates are excellent.

On the outside, I'm not so sure. I mentioned this before, having looked at Milviz' own screenshots, but are panel lines that visible ? The Vietnam paint schemes are as bad - they seem to be over-done to me.

I'm also getting severe flickering / strobing on this panel behind the cockpit:

Anyone getting similar ? I think its a vent with a mesh over it.

Apart from that, I think it was money well spent, and I've barely started to learn all its systems. :)

I'll have to take a look at that panel Paul (though I'm FSX not P3D).

Now you've mentioned it.. the panel lines are a tad overdone on almost all the repaints. Coincidental.. I've just commented at the outhouse re a screenie posted by odourboy to the effect that his AF63-048 paint is one of the few I've seen that DON'T have the panel lines overdone :lol:

My brain is scrambled.. too many new models and not enough time in any to remember procedures :wall: I think you have to engage a stability augmentation switch on the Super S. Engaged.. it doesn't wander off quite so much. I'll have to have a look to confirm it :cpu:

Paul..

Yup.. that grid on the spine doesn't sit particularly well on my rig either. Any such grid does this (for me) regardless of model.

Stability augmentation. I've just taken it up for a spin and it definitely settles with the damper (LH Autopilot panel) engaged. It's not possible to trim for exact straight and level (hands off) but I've not found anything like this which will. Certainly.. the damper will take the weight off and little effort is required to stay (give or take) where you want to be. The AP is rudimentary and requires just a flick of the ALT switch to engage that channel. You can still steer and if you're not too vigourous.. the ALT will hold you.

There's a 'Take off trim' control too (above the throttles I think) which should be engaged.. for takeoff of course :cpu:

There are 4 sets of bump maps in the F100 folder, low, min, med and max. Different paints call different sets, so the level of bump mapping can vary between liveries. :lol:

Ah, thanks for that Dave. I do rather like this model, and I'm glad I got it. I'll have a look for that damper control when I do a bit more flying . :thumbsup:

Dave G, there certainly does seem to be some difference between the different liveries, so that's the answer, yes ? Is there anything that can be done to change which bump map is called, or is it set in stone with each repaint ?

It's easy to change Paul. :) Look in the texture folder for the livery you want to change, and open up the "texture.cfg" in notepad. You'll see one of the fallback lines points to a bump map folder. Simply edit that line to point to a different folder. :cpu: Backup first! :lol:

DG, thanks for that. I've had a look at the texture.cfg for FW-263 , seen above, and it calls for BumpsMin, as below

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\Texture
fallback.2=..\Texture.weapons
fallback.3=..\Texture.BumpsMin
fallback.4=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.5=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

There are four bump map folders - BumpsLow, BumpsMax, BumpsMed and BumpsMin., and FW-263 uses that last one. I'll try it out with BumpsLow and see if there is any improvement - but maybe, BumpsMin is the most unbumpy aready.

Yeah, I'm not sure if BumpsLow or BumpsMin is the least bumpy. :lol:
