MOABP?

Post by Airspeed »

The USA has a MOAB, right?
For me, this is the Mother of All Birthday Presents (for this year anyway)
I said that I'd post photos, and here are some:

Above is Gearbox, sorry I didn't notice that the magazine wasn't snug in this shot.

Just to complete the set!
It's a WWll reconnaissance camera complete with film magazine and lens.
Weighs in at 9.18Kg, and measures 380mm end to end.
I'm happy :)
Cheers, Mike.

Geez Mike, you're a tough guy to buy for on your birthday. ;) I'd be happy with a Starbuck's gift card. A very cool camera you have there. Now all you need is some film and a cute brunette next door who likes to lay out getting a sun tan in the afternoons. B-) ;)

On a more technical note Mike, do you have any historical info on the camera? Whether that be the particular example or the model more generally.
And the ones I'm itching to ask - does it still work? and can you still get film for it (I'm assuming 'No' is the answer to this, but would love to hear otherwise)?

Regards

Kevin

It came with no history notes, Kevin, but I will be asking a few select sources.
Won't hold my breath, as I gave model & serial number of my gun camera to IWM and others, to see if they could tell me anything.
Haven't heard. :|
I am inspecting the insides, and will be putting detail pics on the AFV site.
Gears work, film spool rotates and is removable, counter and red & white indicator rotates to show that film is engaged on both spools.
I'm trying to undo the last 4 screws that hold the works onto the bottom of the magazine, to check for corrosion.
I don't like my chances of acquiring film - I can't even find anyone to process the last photos we took with our SLR. :wall:
I will be hooking up the plug points to a pair of car batteries in series, as it's 24v; I'm hoping to get the shutter to open, so an image may display on the glass where the film passed.
None of the plug points is labelled, so it'll be interesting at least!
Thanks for asking ;)
Cheers, Mike.

Thanks Mike

I find it all very interesting. Please post updates on how you get on.
With regard to developing 35mm film, it is still possible in the UK, although getting expensive now.
