Alphasims' Freeware S-55 / Whirlwind

Post by Nigel H-J »

Went for it today at Flightsim (All Nodes) why not?.....It's freeeeeee!! :lol: so thought I would post a few pictures. Flies well even when the slider is set full right on realistic, does not have the 'OMG the earth is repelling me' about it at all. :o

Waiting for the squadron.

Thanks for posting Nigel. I usually pass on helicopters because I am rubbish at flying them, but this one is fairly easy to control, even for me!

I was a bugger to line up those pinstripes over the nose as they are in severval seperate sections :o

So if anyone want to convert my textures or use them as a templete or basis, feel free to do so.

It is my understanding (and experience) that all FS2004 paints will port over to FSX, given the addition of a little texture.cfg file (that includes fallback folders) and making a little 512x256 thumbnail.jpg. Dan did a fine job of making a specular map that works for all addon paints... and so far all of mine do. I don't have the BEA one, but many, many others. Dan updated the new FSX release from the first one Alphasim posted a few weeks ago, so some of you may not have Dan's new generic specular map. In this case I'd advise you to return to "all nodes" and re-download.

My texture.cfg for addon paints look like this:

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\texture.shared
fallback.2=..\texture

Nigel et al,

BTW, how DID you get the cabin door of the Whirlwind to open? I've always had a problem opening the 2nd exit (or any exit other than the main exit). FSX seems to read Ctrl+E+2 too fast, making panels appear and disappear and the main exit to open, close, open, close like a scene from a Benny Hill sketch! Can anyone tell me how they get around this??
