I don't think I would play the FSX game again without TrackIR. Indispensible IMHO. My trick for setting it up for a good all-round view of the cocpit and outside view is: 1. Start the game then press F12 as normal to centralise view. 2. Tilt head upwards 20-30 degrees then press F12 again ...
Last friday my FSX was chugging around at 15 fps average - today we are hitting the 35 - 40 bracket....
By disabling the High Resolution 3-D cockpit I managed to add between 5-10 fps. I only virtually fly using the VC so I was surprised to find that there is no appreciable difference to a lot ...

I came across this last night and tried a few of the tips and tricks - really speeded up my comp and decreases FSX load times (unless it was my imagination).... Worth a look see..
As an FSX only user I tend not to use AI at all due to the frame rate loss and the fear of becoming a virtual plane spotter. I populate my airfields with statics of the type and era for each site. Consequently i don't have many statics.... It would be nice if makers could include a static model ...
I rarely use FS9, we all have to have a white elephant in our lives, don't we? ;-)
As for the frame rate issue - I don't recall such good and constant fps with FS9 - is that what you mean? or am I missing something?.
